Pierrette Adams
Pierrette Adams was born in Congo-Brazzaville (formerly Zaire). Before becoming a singer, she was a flight attendant for the now defunct airline Pan African Air Afrique. She had singing ambitions as a young girl but her career did not take off until later when she moved to Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast).
Today she is solely dedicated to music, a job that allows her to tour around the world entertaining fans. Her electric style is a testament to different cultures she has encountered in her travels. Using various popular and danceable styles, her songs are about Love between men and women, and the unfaithfulness of Men to their wives. Although she is shy, her strong voice helps her convey the message.
Her social engagement stems maybe from her difficult childhood. On her first album she was inspired by a news item about a case of child abuse, a delicate subject in Africa as anywhere. Also, she introduced the (déchirage) fashion to her fans. This is wearing torn jeans, so that young people with no money for fine clothing could still go to her concerts without feeling uncomfortable.
Her music career took off when during her travels as a flight attendant, she was told of misfortunes of a young boy named Mohammed who was abused by his relatives. She would later use a song "Dairy" to share with the world the young lads misfortune. Diary turned into a big hit and Pierrette discovered a gift she knew she had but didn't know the world would embrace. Her music.
For many years she lived in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, because of her husband's work in that country. She was soon accepted by fans in that country and her biggest successes stems from the period she spent in Côte d'Ivoire.
As a young Shy girl Pierrette didn't think the stage was a place she would ever feel comfortable. However, with the encouragement of those around her, she decided to take the plunge. She started taking Singing Lessons and 12 years later she had Six Albums under her belt. She has since performed with many big music stars around the world.
In September 2002, her husband was assigned work in Dakar (Senegal) and Pierrette moved with her hubby to the new location. She later made Dakar her musical base. While in Ivory Coast, she had adopted a few Charities in order to help the less fortunate. Due to circumstances in Côte d'Ivoire, she had to stop her activities helping homeless children in Abidjan.
Her 2003 album Anesthésie was very well received and quite successful in Africa. She was nominated for the 2003 Kora All Africa Music Awards.
Her Music Style does embrace the many cultures she has been fortunate to experience. You can hear Soukous guitars in her Tunes, Rumba, Ndombolo and Afrozouk sounds emanating from her Albums. Her songs address many topics in everyday life. Funny thing is that she reserves harshest criticism to the male gender :-) You can sense some of it in her titles "Hail husbands", "Absolutely," "Anesthesia" "deep coma". May be we men have a few things to learn from Pierrette Adams.
She herself sums it up as "I'm talking about real things. So real that many people identify with what I sing." Just because unfortunately our daily lives is what we live. We suffer because of all men. The majority of women receive a lot of shots from the men."
